Alright, I know I'm pretty off topic, but if you read through my rambling you will get to a book review I promise

ALRIGHT. DO YOU KNOW WHAT BOOK JUST CAME OUT YESTERDAY? (If you don't its okay, I'll give you a little hint, look at my first review) The newest series, created by the author of the Percy Jackson series came out and I AM SO EXCITED. Too bad it'll be FOREVER until I'm able to read it (absolute torture may I add) It looks pretty good and I'm interested to see whats in store! Squee~

Now I'm done with my little paragraph rambling and I'm ready to be my next review: Escape from Memory. This book is sooo great. (I read it on a Friday we had off) It features Kira, a girl who THINKS she normal (of course she isn't) until one night her friends hypnotize her and discover a long ago hidden memory that buried in the back of her mind. Shortly afterwards her mother disappears and suddenly a strange women appears, claiming to be her 'Aunt Memory'. Then Kira is kidnapped and taken to Crythe, a country where memory is everything and the people there are able to remember nearly everything that happens to them. Kira is wanted because she is the daughter of two very important political figures and her 'Aunt Memory' wants her to read a speech to them. In the mean time Kira's beast friend shows up, which adds to the conundrum. When Kira fails to read the speech correctly she finds out that the lady claiming to be her 'Aunt Memory' is actually Rona Cummins, a women who wants to gain money by selling the amazing technology that Kira's parents worked on, memory that is locked away in Kira's mind. Now she, her mother, and her best friend are held captive. Of course, if you want to know what happens you have to read the book.

I found this was a good book simply because it had an interesting story line that kept you reading. I also like Kira, but the fact remains that Rona made a most excellent antagonist. (After-all, what are books without antagonists? A bunch of words) So I do recommend that read it!

Mockingjay

Alright, I had been waiting for the moment to read this forever. (Which in reality was something along 2 weeks, but still a LONG time) For those of you who have yet to discover the wonderful Hunger Game series, go out and read the first two books. In a summary it is about a world where 12 tributes are sent out in a fight to the death called "The Hunger Games" every year. The protagonist is Katniss Everdeen. Unlike most soppy heroines, she has dimension and strength, not relying on someone else. She takes the place of her sister and the book tells a tale of action and the fight for not only survival but for freedom. This theme is in the second book also, when she is sent back for the Quarter Quell.

The third book focuses mostly on the fact that they are fighting for freedom. It is heart-jerking, I cried half-way through, and I cried for 15 straight minutes at the end. My favorite characters almost seemed to betray me. Though I don't want to spoil anything for you by saying how or who. Finally, I was sad it ended, and frankly sad the WAY it ended. Still, I found it to be a good book, well worth reading.

On another subject, there will be The Hunger Games movie. Frankly, I'm not looking forward to it. It is one thing to read about people fighting to the death and another entirely to watch it. Then there comes the issue of what they will leave out and who will act.

So, read the books. They're good.

percy jackson, the olympians, the lightening thief, the movie, and more

Alright, I know. This seems a little ironic. The movie has just came out, it is now on dvd and trust me, it got a lot of hype. However, things are starting to slow down and all of the talk about Percy Jackson has died with it.

In spite of all of the attention the books have been getting, and now the fact that the spot-light is dimming, I have decided to voice my thoughts. I thought, what the heck? I doubt anybody is actually going to read my blog through the early stages so I thought I might as well rant and rave about the movie and the book.

If you watched the movie, and think that it is ANYTHING like the book, you'd be wrong. Very wrong. One big difference would be mostly the characters looks and histories. I noticed two very troubling characters were left out. Thalia and Kronos. While one I will not reveal the identity of, she plays a large part in some of Annabeth's past. The other, in Greek mythology is the father of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, the one who ate his children and was later cut to pieces. Hes going to be a joy of a character whenever he appears. Anyways, the events were also wrong, in fact most of the plot had been changed other than the stealing of the Lightning Bolt.

Now to tell about the plot and what I thought about it. Its all about Percy Jackson a half-blood or demi-god. Starting out, he doesn't know this, yet we follow him along in the beginning of the book as he learns and struggles with not only figuring out whom his father is and learning how in the world to be a hero, but also with the fact that his mother has disappeared. Shortly after this, he is sent on a quest. Go to the west and meet Hades to try and recover both his mother and the bolt that was supposedly stolen by Hades. On they way he is discovered by a series of monsters. (Different from the movie when he had to find Persephone's pearls.) Among them were the Furies also known as the Kindely Ones, a hell-hound, and a chimera. One of the furies is the same one who appeared at the beginning of the book as a teacher.

I thought it was a good book. I found myself cheering Percy along, though I admit I like Grover and Annabeth a bit better. (Who doesn't love half goat satyrs who can talk to animals? Or how about super-intelligent blondes? *coughcough* unlike the movie when Annabeth had the brown hair) It was a good (quick for me) read and I found it very enjoyable. It is perfect for people able to read on all levels. The best part is you actually LEARN things while enjoying a modern action story. In fact, I admit, I feel I know a bit more about Greek mythology.

My first post

This is my first post, and I would like to explain what I plan to do as well as introduce myself. I plan to do a large number of book reviews, based on popular, unpopular, and entirely random books I have read. I am making reviews for teens/young readers and I hope that they might influence people to read these books. Many of them are good, but don't just take my advice. You may never know what books you might like, even if they happen to be outside of your usual genre.

I myself am a teen girl, a bookworm, or in this case the owl, as most of these books are in my crammed bookshelf, stacked on my tables, and placed around the house. I hope you enjoy some of my future blogs.
